Show Recap
20 12 2011So the screening has come and gone before we knew it! Thanks so much to everyone who came out and supported the Ottawa Music and Film scene. Thanks so much to the OIFF again for inviting us to share the screen and event with them! There was well over 100 people in attendance at Mercury Lounge on Wednesday, December 14th all crammed together to check out the show. Lines even began at 6:45- that’s 15 minutes before just the doors were opened! The show went better than we could have ever have hoped; the music and arts scene in Ottawa is something we were proud to flaunt!
CBC Radio 1 All in a Day Host Allan Neal MC’ed the event and was nice enough to invite the filmmakers, a Rock Lotto participant and organizer Samantha Everts on the air for a ten minute segment to promote the event. (We love the CBC!) *No link to the radio interview…yet.
Amos the Transparent set high expectations with their beautiful atmospheric acoustic set with the full band, including cello and banjo. The played a 35 minute set, debuting many songs from their upcoming new album, a treat for listeners who rarely get to see such an intimate set from them.
Even though musicians and artists in attendance came from all backgrounds (metal to hip-hop) Ian Keteku, from Daughters of the Revolution, had the audience in awe for his improptu “poem”, which was actually a call to action. With fellow spoken word poet Brad Morden on ukelele, the song had people waving their hands up and yelling in appreciation. His music video “Nightmares” was also included in the screening.
We were honoured to screen the five videos from Kalle Mattson, The Goodluck Assembly, The Joynt, Zebrassieres and Daughter’s of the Revolution. Jaws were dropping over Kalle Mattson’s video for “Thick as Thieves” and many people rushed over to find out exactly, “who is that band?” We’re so glad the guys were able to make it out and after it finished the audience turned and applauded them as they stood on the second patio. It tells the history of the world using evolution and dinosaurs in an arts-and-crafts stop animation mode. Please see previous post to watch all the videos.
Now the actual documentary was incredible well received. People were laughing and gasping throughout the whole screening. Many of the participants you could tell had forgotten about some of the incidents and off-hand comments that truly depicted them making friends and spontaneous music that was later proven, is very difficult to recreate.
The filmmakers from the Indefinite Project were then brought up and interviewed by Allan Neil. They were thrilled with the response as this was only their second time ever working with the OIFF and first time headlining an event. They’ve got big plans for their next documentary project, and though hush-hush, we’re eagerly awaiting to hear more about how the Rock Lotto can support their vision for Ottawa musicians.
And then we got up and guess what? Surprised everyone by re-uniting one of the original May 2011 Rock Lotto bands! Ladies and gents, please welcome back to the stage… the Demi Moore Moore Moores!!!!
Thank you again to everyone who came out or just showed an interest in our project! Full press coverage will be updated soon.
