Track of the Week- Fevers “Passion is Dead (Long Live Fashion)”

31 01 2012

Click to listen to "Passion Is Dead"

As if we just stumbled on Fevers now and why aren’t they eating up the CBC 3 Charts already (if not hipster indie clubs in Europe)?  Killer female vocals and dancey synth pop will suck you in immediately. Fans of Crystal Castles, M83 and dreamy ethereal vocals a la Zola Jesus take note.

They don’t have any upcoming Ottawa gigs, but you can download their whole album (released October 2011) here.

72 Hour Film Challenge Songs

31 01 2012

Challenge CD!

So in case you’re wondering how Rock Lotto sponsored the 72 Hour Film Challenge with OIFF what we did was provide the music requirement part.

Kind of had a lot of fun playing music supervisor and choosing five songs by five local bands/artists to provide the 22 short films’ music.  There was rock, there was punk, there was even some hip hop in there. What the filmmakers had to do was to include 10 seconds or more of 2 of them.

Thanks so much to Boyhood, Kalle Matteson, Dave Norris & Local Ivan, The Steve Adamyk Band and Zoo Legacy for providing the sweet sounds that drove everyone (crazy?) for 72 hours.    You can click on their names to listen to their newest albums too!

OIFF 72 Hour Film Challenge- Rock Lotto Sponsors!

23 01 2012

We’re honoured to be working with the Ottawa International Film Festival for this very cool event!  Got a little inspiration from our model? Nope they did this last year too with tons of success.  Our friends at Valkaline Productions, Treepot and Parktown Films actually won for their film “Polar Bear Love”.  We can’t give away how we’re involved but even we can’t believe how cool our job is sometimes!

SCREENINGS:  February 16th – 7PM at the Pump

Track of the Week – Philly Moves

23 01 2012

This week’s track of the week is by hip-hop trio Philly Moves.  Their song “It’s too Cold for a Tshirt” pretty much sums up Ottawa weather.  Cool harmonies too by the female vocalist featured, Kaylie Seaver.

Track of the Week- A Tribe Called Red

19 01 2012

We’ve been thinking of featuring a track of the week by local musicians to check out.  (Also because the webmistress would update more often then!)

Addicted to A Tribe Called Red‘s PowWowzer song. They fuse traditional Indian music (in this song Cree) with electronic and dance.  Listen here and be prepared to DANCE!

Local Musicians Making it on the International Scene

19 01 2012

We always knew that Ottawa musicians rocked (Thanks Alanis!) but these folks are making waves lately and are definitely worth checking out.

And yup, we respect those that paved the way, including Tom Green’s valiant efforts!
