Participant Info

Disclaimer:  When we first started this it was a little difficult to find 25 musicians willing to give up their Friday and Saturday for the event. Now, we have been overwhelmed with interest because of the event’s success and partnerships we’ve developed since Spring of 2011. We will need another 5-7 BACKUP musicians for the event as people ALWAYS drop out last-minute.  Please email for more information:  ottawarocklotto@gmail.com

To be a participant you must:

  • Be 19 years or older
  • Be in an active band based out of Ottawa
  • Have a website with one or more songs
  • Represent diversity in:  age, gender, culture, experience and include the LGBT community
  • Fill the various genre requirements (indie, hip-hop, metal, pop, experimental, etc.)
  • Be able to benefit from exposure
  • Select only ONE member  of your band to represent you
  • Commit to being available from 7 p.m. on Friday, May 18 for our band draw until your performance on Saturday, May 19.
  • Have your whole band be comfortable and sign releases with a documentary crew around your Rock Lotto and regular band

How participants have been selected:

  • We’ve noticed you in the last year!  Music videos, concerts, radio appearances, whatever.  We pay attention to people doing something cool in the arts scene.
  • You’ve contacted us!
  • Recognized that your band can benefit from media exposure and interaction with other musicians

*It is NOT based on whether or not your regular band is deemed “the best”- you just have to be contributing to the local music scene to get our attention!

* Because this is a charity event participants can NOT have their entire regular band guest-listed to watch the show.

What participants get:

  • Media and community exposure through local and national TV, radio, print, online press
  • Networking opportunities with musicians of all backgrounds
  • Connections with local businesses that support the arts community
  • Invaluable connections in the music and arts community
  • Friendships!
  • Promotion on all of the Rock Lotto social media including links from our website, videos promoted, radio-play upon our media appearances, possible related mini-performances
  • Inspiration for future projects
  • Informal education/training from more seasoned musicians
  • Beer!

*** If you have not been selected, do not fret!  We can still support you through our involvement the OIFF Music Video Challenge where you can submit your music video to compete.  Or you can submit songs or an album to the 72 Hour Music Challenge where ORL bands provide the music soundtrack that could land your music on national television or festival screens worldwide.  Sometimes we just need a band for an event we’ve been asked to be involved with!

Also, our organizer is a music journalist.  So let her know if you have a new album or show coming out and you could end up getting a story written about you.  Just email samantha (dot) everts at gmail (dot) com
