Track of the Week – “1 in 6” Atherton – 27-02-12

27 02 2012

We love coffee and we love Atherton’s take on the Canadian phenomenon of Roll up the Rim.  Given that it’s just started all over again for 2012, it’s GOT to be our choice for Track of the Week.  This video was actually runner-up in the 2011 Music Video Challenge from OIFF.  Atherton also has a cool weekly youtube show where he freestyles with rappers that come to town like Shad.

(p.s. Cameo by Rock Lotto founder Luca Fiore as the lucky donut winner.)

And the winner is… 72 Hour Film Challenge

Check out the winners!  The event was a big success with loads of people out to support the local film scene.  The only problem was that we had 23 entrants and could only screen the top 10 as online voted by you!

1. Encore

2. World Peace

3. Homecoming

We loved watching all of the films as a judge and seeing how each of the production teams used the Rock Lotto music.  It was surprising that the punk songs were the most popular!  Some folks used the radio to switch between songs to fit them into the required two song components but others used them to add drama to a scene, like in Encore when the main actor walks across Rideau Street.  You have to admit, it’s pretty cool to see so much of your town on the big screen.

We had no idea how the music was going to be fit, but we are already stoked to work with OIFF again for next year’s challenge!

Below are some of our favourites:

Track of the Week – The Balconies “Kill Count”

20 02 2012

We’re big fans of The Balconies here at Rock Lotto and were definitely one of the louder fans at the Live 88.5 Big Money Shot competitions.  They’ve since moved to Toronto but hey, they’re still Ottawans at heart!  Check out their kick-ass new video that we’re convinced is headed straight to MTV and Much Music.  Woo… woo!

Track of the Week- Misplaced by The Acorn

6 02 2012

Our good friends (and former Rock Lotto stars!) in The Acorn released an album back in 2010 that’s been in our ipod ever since.  They recorded this music video almost as long ago back but it perfectly captures what the weather around here has been like lately.  Now everybody, “I know, I know, I know, I know…”
